So I thought let's watch it bc the ml is a priest so that's kinda neat I don't know if the show is focused on the relationship , or if the relationship is the focus but I should probably watch it isn't that right? so I went and checked my usual sites for watching a TV show but I couldn't find it probably because it is a telenovella which means a tv series

it's a brazillian show, I don't even know what they speak in Brazil. I think it's Portuguese. but surprisingly it wasn't translated so I was like oh my god how am I gonna watch this thing? Guess what? I found translated it for free and it has 32 episodes and was a hassle to watch I don't know why but the episodes weren't loading easily even though the internet has nothing wrong with it so I had to either try and download it go watch it on telegram for some reason

I basically put effort to watch this thing and at the start it wasn't great it wasn't even good the two main couple not that there's a side couple but anyway the two main couple took nearly six episodes to meet

each episode is from 40-58 minutes.

So at first I was like "Oh, there is politics in this thing." the focus on the politics in this show was so funny. I wasn't expecting that. I also wasn't expecting the protagonist to be a prostitute.. She's 17

And the way she had people flocking to her so easily as if she was born to be a prostitute which by the way is so impressive. I'm genuinely impressed by her she seems so cool, so giving and so understanding and charismatic somehow despite being incredibly young

It was really funny to see how I got into this for the relationship. It's rare for me since I'm not big on romance. But I ended up watching this whole communist church thing instead. There's the male lead and his two buddies, or brothers, who were all orphans that grew up together.

The protagonist is called a saint, I don't know what that means. I always thought a saint was like a priest, but maybe not.

His first brother is kind of a.... Hustler. He does things for money and doesn't care about women beyond their bodies.

The second brother, well, Robert.. irl he wrote a book that serves as a report on Hilda, the protagonist and female lead. Interestingly, his role in the show mirrors this. He plays a reporter writing about Hilda the Hurricane, a woman so charming that men, both married and single, become obsessed with her a phenomenon dubbed the Hilda ailment iirc

At the beginning of the show, I disliked Roberto but found Hilda cool and pretty. The male lead piqued my interest because he seemed like a wet sobbing pathetic cat which can be charming.

I had to pause and look up political terms to understand better a few times lol

and at one point, I was genuinely interested in it, the Gigolo brother, and the various side characters we were introduced to.

Take the male lead's boss, the priest, I initially found his father meh. But over time, my opinion changed. I no longer simply disliked him; I thought his seriously sucked!

This guy is awful; he despises women with such fervor. Now, this isn’t meant to be a spoiler, he's religious, it’s a common trope in media sasly, though it doesn’t mean being religious equates to hating women. but it wasnt unexpected of him tbh

And then there's Roberto. wait.. doesn't he have a family? I'm confused. How did the three of them meet? Maybe at the church? Anyway, Roberto has his own side story, and his family has theirs.

They're connected to Roberto but not entirely defined by him. For instance, Roberto's communism is a point of contention they want him to renounce lol. They have their own "

including and this isn't just in relation to Roberto's relatives there are other women in the series that we follow their story, for example the female lead had a friend her friend obviously sucked so this is the story about her family and specifically her grandma I don't know where is the mother and the dad I don't think if we've seen them?

thing about this show is that for some reason I can't seem to remember the people.... it's not a weird thing for me I don't really have a good memory but usually it's not this bad especially when it's not an Asian show because with Asian shows my problem is mainly about the names.

not Korean ones nor Japanese ones I mean the Chinese ones, the names can be a bit of a hassle to remember especially if it's a historical Chinese drama but with this show I found it really difficult to remember the people and I think it's also because of the names we had Hilda we had Roberto we had Malthus we had ...........wow I don't remember any other name great so anytime they mention somebody I'm like who is that unless you show the face I don't know who is that and even when they do show the face I'm a bit unsure since the cast is big and the narration changes the focus every few minutes it's a different "pov"

But back to what I was saying, the thing about this telenovela is that, and I don't usually think of people this way, so it kind of feels bad to say this, but honestly not a single person in there is sane.

Everybody is dumb, especially the women. It's just so disappointing. There was a moment where I had to agree with the guys. Why would you do that to me? Why would you let me agree with the guys who are also stupid?

Oh my god, these people are so unbelievable. imagine you're in a situation, you have multiple choices and for some reason every single time you actively choose the "oh what is the worst thing I could possibly do in this moment that is also stupid and doesn't make sense?"

^ This is probably the thought process that went through every single character in this show.

Except, and not fully, to a degree, except the female and male lead.

they're not that smart, they're annoying, but hey, they're the protagonists of the series, so they felt much tolerable than the rest of the cast. Except later on I started to hate them too. I was interested at the start. I wanted to know more about this communism thing. I wanted to know more about this stupid politics thing.

but they just can't help but be so atrociously bad-spirited and evil and weirdly misogynist and sexist and racist and just full-on stupidity.

I get the guys being huge assholes to women since they're not women. but why are you as a woman siding with them? Are you insane? not every single guy sucked but some of them, like the Gigolo brother, his job depends on interacting with women, okay? Yet he talks about them really badly.

And there were many, many instances in this show where I felt like I am too woke for this.

Imagine that I don't think I've seen a single character, a single female character, who was wearing a pants. They all wear dresses or skirts. Unbelievable. I know this is set in an old decade or something. But It's still so annoying to see. Or the way there's this guy who's like an evil guy. I don't really remember what's his occupation. I think he's like the leader of the church or something. Not the father. Someone else.

and his main role in this show so far from what I've seen since I dropped it at episode 10 and I continued until episode 20 I think, just skipping everything trying to see the scenes with Hilda and Maltus and whether or not they get together, and then I realized I hate their guts so I dropped that too

but back to the point this guy this pathetic guy (and that is not a compliment) for whatever reason he should- I don't know but he should be- he should have some sort of power to him like his position or something so realistically speaking why would a guy in a position of power ask the woman to help him and not his fellow guys hmm?

I would like to think it's because he actually cares but he doesn't this is not me being pessimistic he genuinely doesn't that's his schtick everybody knows except the women who are hell bent on helping him. this guy literally does nothing!! he's just like "you know what the situation is bad we gotta get rid of the red light district we can't have such thing in the midst of our city (pun chance missed) and it's just not good for the families and their wives and the women and I know you're such a strong invaluable part of the community

And that without you we wouldn't be living in this society and the society needs women etc etc

you know......nThis is not a definitive rule But if someone feels the need to say how much they're a good person and how good they're doing..

the only thing you need to know about it is that it's in the middle of the city for some reason and the people and by that I mean.... Yep, you guessed it the women....ughhhhh I hate this show. It's making me feel like a women hater. I promise I'm not, Everybody in there sucks regardless of their gender but basically Everyone at the start hated that the red light district was in the middle of the city for some reason

They wanted to get rid of it and move it to another City that doesn't even exist. They're planning to build a city called the city of camellias and for some reason I Don't know if this is like an actual Brazilian term, they call prostitutes camellias.... I don't get if that's a good thing if that's a censor Like trying to make light of their job as if it's shameful

But basically this guy, you know the stupid guy. The one who kind of doesn't have an actual job is saying that we should get rid of the red light district and Put it in the outskirts Because we as a Christian community who beholds a family values and bullshit like that Cannot tolerate this kind of thing

what he says would have had more value to it if it was genuine but it's not.

you see I'm not sure of the details but basically he seems to be teaming up with this rich guy in their city and I think this rich guy is eyeing the land of the red light district, he wants to appreciate it or something you know something in the in the estate market, I didn't get the detail details and I didn't really care at that point

but it's basically a money thing this church guy doesn't care the rich guy doesn't care either and they're saying "oh no they're bad for society we cannot have our men be seduced by these women and our families be broken down whatever yada yada yada yada I don't care but none of it was true

I mean it is not true in general but even the goal he is aspiring to do is not actually his goal he is basically lying to help the rich man

so idk this stuff and my opinion might not be a good one for all i know. But basically, I genuinely couldn't get why are they so bothered by this red-light district.

I'm not sure what's worse, the way the women are being treated by the guys in this show, or the way other women are treating the women themselves.

imagine going to a random guy to buy pictures of a naked woman. I know she is selling it willingly, but it's like, so icky. (not the act itself) I jusr teel bad for her that most of those who look at it aren't comprehending that she's also a human. there has been studies on this if im not mistaken

since hilda was soon to be married and preparing for her marriage party and stuff. at one time this friend told her that she wants to know everything in their "first night", that she needs to tell her bc she really wants to know so that she can be prepared and stuff like that. But the way she phrased it seemed so suspicious to me.

i get being curious but it felt ingenuine, as if she's asking that to shame her or to spread it as gossip

And it's not just that, she also gave hilda, her...........pink garter belt. It's not a new one, it's her own. Why do you have a garter belt? i actuallt dunno if they have any purpose other than being associated with sexy clothes or lingerie?

And she's not a married either. I don't see a problem with her owning that, even if she's not married of course. But the thing is, later on after Hilda left and became a prostitute, she at one point saw her friend on the street. So she greeted her but the friend didn't reply.

The friend acted as if she doesn't know Hilda , she was with her cousin in that moment and later on told her cousin that she just can't be seen with Hilda.

And there's the thing about This specific character, the friend, is that from the start of the show she has this one boyfriend who we never see 👀

so it's not only that the guy the communism boss seems to be her dad's age. I can't believe you've been a relationship with a guy who's as old as your dad this whole time and you get the audacity of shaming Hilda.

mind you I don't think either of them needs to be shamed, but The hypocrisy of these people. After that, and probably by another day too, he was like, "you know what I'm so prepared to be married. I can't wait to get married! right now''

Even though she told him her birthday is close. It's in april. She would love to get married on her birthday but He was like nooooo we have to get married in two weeks And here's the thing. When she said her birthday was in april She said it's her 18th birthday. So this happened when she was 17

Anyways she was busy preparing for this marriage and weirdly enough her mom would ask her what are your thoughts feelings and stuff with this weird expression on her face

Whether she has something to say, something to talk about. I didn't think much of it in the moment but later on it seemed really suspicious. And each time Hilda would say no because she's worried, and she doesn't feel comfortable voicing it when everybody is pressuring her.

She spent those two weeks, get it, she spent cooking, doing crochet, and buying kitchenware. she is good at them but at the same timee you would see her frowning after doing the thing. Like I don't know if she only felt that this is "going too fast but for me" but I assume she also felt that she's being forced to do this.

I mean it sounds like an absolute horror movie. If you don't like this stuff, this is all a valid and a good thing to be interested in but only if you like it. If you're forced to do it just because you have a certain type of genital, it's.... not good.

And on the top of that, at one moment she was with her boyfriend- fiancé and she gave him a dessert. He was taking a bite using the spoon. I'm not sure if he even put the spoon in his mouth.

he would rather invent reasons than accept the fact that she just doesn't want to get married to him rn, double line under rn since at first it was just that before he was so insensitive and slapped her

especially not to him they don't even know each other that well from what I've gotten.... when all of the excuses didn't work he said "did I do something wrong" I know this might sound like a good thing that he's asking if he is doing something wrong but this kind of reaction happened multiple times in this show and each time it's not an "ah did I do something wrong so that I can apologize to you for wronging you?"

no it's a "did I do something wrong because I know I didn't do something wrong and I'm not the kind of person to do wrong things and there's no way I did something wrong in the first place so you're lying" that kind of thing it's not a question for her sake as much as for his and the way he's making himself be the victim in this situation bro you're insane

mind you, he said later on in the series that when they were about to get married he was already dating another girl, which if you want to know he's currently married. and his wife is expecting a kid in a month or so and he said to that to Roberto, who is a reporter if you forgot, Roberto the reporter lol,

that at the time he was dating another woman, you know, at the time of the day he was supposed to get married. And it gets worse but let me go back to the flashback.

After saying that, "did he do something wrong is it his fault, he didn't do anything wrong, yada yada yada, she told him no and he started crying for some reason and she's the one who is freaking about this in the first place and being invalidated, but for some reason she had to comfort him as if he's a kid.

what the in the world?????, why. why is she the one comforting you and not the opposite? Why do you feel this wronged by not being married to someone you've only known for two weeks where you spent most of this week seemingly dating another one?

The audacity of this guy, and it gets worse. I don't remember this scene that well, but it went for a good while. He cried, said I'm sorry, and then for whatever fucked up line of thought that goes in his head

he said the reason she doesn't want to go along with this marriage is because she has someone else. this is coming from the guy who was cheating.

ah. i just realised. so he was projecting okay nice. and he said "it's fine and I will I forgive i accept it" he didn't say this once or twice I think he said maybe thrice or so many times forgor

that he "I don't mind you can have lovers you can be with someone else I don't care just let us get with this marriage" etc it's just so insane why are you this hellbent on marrying someone who you don't seem to like or even mildly respect as another human being

what is wrong with you. He was so convinced that she either has a boyfriend, multiple boyfriends or goes to the red light district and on top of that he wanted to forgive her for it. He also said it's okay if she wants to have lovers even after they get married. When she asked him what are they gonna do on their honeymoon, like can she spend it with someone else, he went "well that's fine but do it discreetly so that no one knows because my reputation is important."

What in the world is wrong with this guy? The problem is.. she refused. She said no, it's not that and it's true, it's really not that, she's just uncomfortable with marrying a guy only after knowing him for I don't know two weeks???

but he just couldn't take a no. He didn't believe her, he's like there's no way, your reason is nothing, there has got to be something, you're cheating on me, I

then he said something offensive, tbf everything he said is offensive but she gave him a slap and then he was like you're a slut. you're a bitch. I don't care about you, go die in a ditch. I don't want to marry you, this marriage is nulled and then he also gave her a slap. which is wow.

after that, he stormed out angrily. Her parents and her supposed friend were outside, but they didn't seem to have heard anything.

this keeps on happening in the show: people talk behind others' backs in the same area, close by, yet somehow no one hears them. It's baffling ! how can they not hear each other when they're so near?

even though her parents were on the top of the stairs, right by the room where they were fighting, none of them heard the argument.

they were "clueless" about what occurred and frantic to know what happened. They blamed Hilda, accusing her of being stupid and emotional and risking the marriage. They worried about their reputation and the community's opinion.

yer mom was on the phone with someone, discussing how unreasonable their daughter was being and how this situation could damage their reputation since people were already waiting at the church. She suggested maybe hospitalizing Hilda, putting her in a mental institution.

Hilda overheard this as she stood behind her mother unnoticed. shocked, she grabbed her bags and ran away in her wedding dress.

so, after she left, she headed to the red-light district and checked into a hotel. The people who live in that hotel, her current firends, were very strange. They kept following her until she got to her room and even entered with her.

they were funny because she was in her wedding dress, with her veil dragging on the ground. Some people followed her just to hold up the veil so it wouldn't get dusty.

she never acknowledged them or thanked them. She didn't even ask why they were following her, which was amusing.

anyway, back to the present: her ex-fiancé had an interview with Roberto. After that, he went to see Hilda but stood in line like a customer. When it was his turn, she told him no. She said she cam see everyone but deffo not him.

he was like, why not? I will pay you. I will pay you thousands of bucks. She said no And they talked for a bit and he said after Roberto came to him for the interview He couldn't stop thinking about her and that he's married and has a kid on the way and stuff like that But still wants to sleep with Hilda even though he's married. What the in the world?

And on top of that he refused to mention his wife's name because he thinks it's so holy or something

that she is such a good woman from a good family and Hilda doesn't deserve to know or pronounce her name And He repeated what he said years ago

That he accepts Her mistakes and forgives her and just has one question. Guess what's the question? "Were you sleeping with somebody else at that time? Were you in a relationship or did you frequent the red light district that much?"

He was cheating on her. Why does he feel the need to know if she was cheating on him when he himself was cheating on her? Huh? Why?

She laughed at that Told him to get out. He refused. He tried to force himself on her and then her bodyguard jumped in to the rescue and They basically screamed at each other until he went into his taxi But it sucked it this guy really sucks

so as you can see there isn't a single sane person in this show other than maybe. not fully.

Hilda's friends or co-workers if they can be called that they're more like her friends but the thing is they're not that good either her friends have different jobs they're similar but it's different Hilda is a sex worker her blonde friend is a dancer her other friend called Maria is also a sex worker their third friend or rival is.... she is an artist she does shows where she dances and the three of them Maria, the blonde, and the rival were shaming each other for their occupations??

each one was like my job is so honorable I'm not like the other girls whereas you. you sleep with men. something along these lines which is so insane to me aren't you supposed to be on the same side why are you shaming each other you're not that different from each other in the first plaw

anyways they're still friends somehow maybe they were joking.

and even in the communism party because we see their povs too it's not that good.. they're fighting amd falling in love for some reason it's just so messy these people are so messy and insane as hell

the leads seem normal compared to everyone else, but they're not really better. At first, Hilda was generous and cool with her friends. She would gift, help, and listen to them. But as the show goes on, she gets a bit crazy mainly when she starts falling for the ML.

her "love" feels sudden she doesn't really know him but keeps pushing herself onto him. She guilttrips him, even though she knows he's a saint who believes he shouldn't marry or sin. It's hard to understand her actions.

and then there's the main lead, the saint. This guy with his bowl cut is annoying, insufferable, and self-absorbed. He's not a bad person, just irritating. However, he's kind of likable and cute more so because of the actor than the character. The character’s naive and dumb nature also adds to his charm in an odd way.

he's funny. He has this Jesus statue in his room that shows Jesus on the cross and bleeding, he treats it like his bestie to vent to every two seconds

It’s hilarious in a morbid way bc the statue shows Jesus in constant "torture", yet he vents to it as if it's comforting him somehow despite the person in question shouldn't be feeling comfort

it would make more sense to use a regular statue of Jesus lol.

anyway, whenever something happens, usually just an ordinary event, he freaks out and runs back to his room to talk to the statue. every. single. time.

it has gotten to the point where the people are saying the saint seem to be at a crisis lol, which is not wrong

the show does a good job depicting his inner conflict over sinning, but it gets tiring. This struggle probably goes on for 32 episodes, since i fully dropped it at 27 It's exhausting to watch.

How many times do I have to see him cry and feel conflicted? Just say yes or no. It's normal to feel lost, I get that, but im exhausted watching you go through this every single time.

It gets even worse. He started harming himself as repentance, physically with a whip. And there's stuff we don't need to know. Like when he kissed Hilda, he said "ive always felt the top of my body not down there" and started undressing on the screen and doing the deed what in the world. yo i dont need to know this that is tmi

And then he did the deed and went and tortured himself for it.

okay, man, you sinned once. It's not that serious. Just promise you're not gonna do it again if it's this important to you to not do it again. But no, he just like keeps on getting worse and tortures himself worse on it.

And maybe you shouldn't be religious if your religion is torturing you this much. I mean..idk but I get it.

But also, it sucks to see him feel this way, knowing it's not that serious. I mean, it is serious, but it's only serious if you make it serious, if you get what I mean

He's really annoying, and although he says he's a sinner many times, he has the nerve to reject the female lead over and over. If he's going to refuse her, he shouldn't kiss or sleep with her. It feels like he's using her.

Yes, she's tempting him and is persistent in her affections, but that's not entirely her fault. It's his fault too. He should either stop it or move forward.

Despite all this, his constant internal conflict throughout the show makes him seem........ saintly to me tbh. He feels so much guilt and pain that he ends up harming himself. Ignoring that he might have been "groomed" to think this way from childhood due to his religion

even though technically speaking, he is right. sinning is wrong. But I don't think God would approve of torturing yourself just for being human with desires. we all "sin" after all depending on your world view and beliefs

Self-flagellation would never make you get better at either doing or stopping something. It never does that. The only way to go about it is to accept that you did something and try to be better.

Whether this better is to do or not to do. So I do get why he feels this way but it's just sad to see and annoying but it does makes him feel so humane if not, yet once again, annoying lol

but oh well we're humans we're bound to be annoying and in a way that is a feature, despite all his conflict and all his drama about not being a saint in a way that does make him feel like a saint in my eyes because he had so much self-consciousness about it to the point of actively harming himself.

I hope it got better. I hope they either ended this fully or got together wholly on board. I don't know. I dropped the show. I got so fed up with it.

I came in liking the protagonist and the side character and the whole politics, , red light street thing and came out hating everybody in that show other than Roberto who at the start was unlikable but somehow in the end it turns out he is the most sane guy which is saying something because he's not that good but he's honestly the best that's available so good for him. good for you Roberto you're the best.

also just so u know at the start it seemed that Roberto was kind of interested in Hilda but for some reason they ditched this whole plot bunny I think he's a really good guy in a way, imperfect but well intentioned

If not for him doing his report and making a book out of it since I don't know why the report became a book in real life, and the book getting adapted.... maybe Hilda doesn't deserve him maybe he should be with someone else who is more reasonable...

she is cool but let her be with her saint rather than going crazy on all of us xd

So yeah, this was a ride.. it was interesting to see all of that including forbidden love and guilt which i feel is rare in media and not only did I waste my time watching this I also wasted my time writing this wholeass essay for 5 hours if you can call it that but it was a ride nonetheless

I laughed, I enjoyed it, I hated it, I despised it I got frustrated and agitated by it 10 out of 10, don't recommend, never watch this check out the edits only. but don't watch this or do if you like torturing yourself.
